Robert Allen Burks, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026. He was born on January 7, 1931, in Plainfield, New Jersey to Robert William Burks and Ethel Anna Burks. In 1943, Robert moved with his family to Maitland, where he would eventually meet the love of his life, Grace Lang. He attended school at Winter Park Junior High School and Winter Park High School, building friendships and memories that would last a lifetime. After graduating high school, Robert answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1949. He was among the first units sent to Korea and served during some of the harshest conditions of the war as part of the The Chosin Few, enduring both the first and second winters there. During his service, Robert was recognized by the Korean Air Force and presented with a complete meal dish set in honor of saving the life of the son-in-law of Syngman Rhee, the first President of South Korea. Robert returned home on Christmas Day in 1951. On June 1, 1952, Robert married his beloved Grace Lang, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 74 years. Their marriage was built on love, faith, dedication, and devotion to family. Robert and Grace lived in Altamonte Springs before moving to Dunnellon in 1987. He was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served the Lord. He served as a trustee and later as head trustee, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His servant’s heart and unwavering faith touched countless lives. Robert was a deeply devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His family was his greatest joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He loved Jesus, loved serving others, and lived a life defined by faith, compassion, and kindness. He is survived by devoted loving wife Grace, his sons Randy Jay Burks (Suzanne), Kevin Allen Burks (Teresa), and son-in-law Lloyd Everett Sr.; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Dixie Lynn Everett; grandson, Nicholas Randall Burks; his parents, Robert William and Ethel Anna Burks; sisters Virginia Keys and Gladys Miller; and two nieces. Robert will be remembered for his strong faith, unwavering love for his family, and generous spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his family rejoices in knowing he is now home with his Savior. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to “Forget me Not” C/O Dunnellon Methodist Church of Toys for Tots in Bob’s honor.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
