Robert Charles “Duke” Snyder,

83, went to be with his Savior on May 31, 2026, at his residence in Ocala, Florida. Born on April 5, 1943, in Frenchtown, NJ, and raised in Princeton, he was the eldest son of the late Charles and Viola (Weider) Snyder. Duke met his future wife, Carolyn, on a blind date just a short time before being drafted into the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War. During this time they got to know each other through their letters and eventually fell in love. Duke later earned a Purple Heart for his injuries sustained while driving an Armored Personnel Carrier over a land mine. Upon returning home in 1967, Duke and Carolyn married and raised their family. He worked in the construction industry as a Heavy Equipment Operator with the Operating Engineers Union. Duke was also a member of the United Vietnam Veterans Organization (UVVO) and the American Legion. After over 20 years of service with the Union, he eventually retired. Robert attended Meadowbrook Church in Ocala. He was known for his ability to fix anything and enjoyed his role as the family driver. He is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Snyder. Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Snyder, Dunnellon, FL; his daughter, Tracey Ralston (Sean), also Dunnellon, FL; his son, Richard Snyder, Brandon, FL; his sister, Penny Cowan, Lancaster, PA; his brother, Barry Snyder (Jane), Orlando, FL; and his (3) grandchildren, Rich Snyder, Jr., Miranda Casey (Devon), and Sean Ralston, Jr. as well as multiple nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions can be made in Robert’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project at P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas, 66675-8516. (supportwoundedwarriorproject.org) A committal service with military honors will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 2 PM at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
