Roy DeGroot, 73, husband of fifty-two years to Roberta (Houck) DeGroot, died on February 5, 2013 at his residence in Inglis, FL. He was born on February 16, 1939 in Tarpon Springs, Fl. He was the son to the late Robert and Edna (Whitelaw) DeGroot. Roy was born in Florida but raised in Deposit, NY. He served our country proudly for six years in the US Army. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 16 years and was awarded Best Mechanic in the Triple Cities. He then worked at Windsor School Bus Garage for 23 years until his retirement. He truly enjoyed music in which he had a passion for playing the guitar, along with many other instruments. He loved to play with whatever band he put together for all friends and family's special occasions. He was lovingly referred to as "The Gadget Man" for his fondness and large collection of them. Roy's passions were his wife, living in Florida upon retirement, grandkids, camping, and getting together with the "Golf Cart Yacht Club" many an evening. A truly loving husband, father and grandfather will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his brother Robert DeGroot and sisters, Violet Kenyon and Grace Maridakis. Besides his loving wife, Roy is survived by his children, Paul DeGroot, Binghamton, NY and Michele Fanara-Stock, Binghamton, NY; his grandchildren, McKenna, Grayson and Parker; his nieces and nephews, Debbie, Dave, Donna, Robert, Viola and Mary. A memorial service will be held by his wife at a later date. Expressions of Sympathy can be made online to robertsofdunnellon.com
