Dunnellon

Stephen “Steve” Thomas Chalke was born on September 23, 1966, in Chelsea, MA. We lost him on February 4, 2024, at 57 years old, in Dunnellon, FL. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Steve was known for his fun-loving and adventurous spirit. He was always the life of the party, ensuring that everyone around him had a blast, and a lighted frisbee. He had a heart for the underdog and was always there to lend a helping hand. Steve's generosity knew no bounds, and he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. As a devoted father and husband, he cherished his family more than anything else. He was a pillar of support and love for his wife, Lisa, and their children Kourtney Chalke Rivera (Mario), Kate Chalke Betz (Seth), Jessica Wikholm (Dawn), and Elliot Wikholm (Morgan.) Steve was also a proud grandfather to Isabella, Koban, Sabrinah, Liam, Willard, Elliot, Mary-Kate, Rosemary, and Peach. His love and guidance will forever be treasured by his grandchildren. He is survived by his parents George Chalke (Sharon) and Lynda Burrage and his 100-year-old grandmother Margaret H. Bell. His siblings Laurie Justice, Darin Chalke, David Chalke (Brittany), and Tara Williams. He was preceded in death by his loving sister, Melissa Mathison, and son Daniel Wikholm. Steve also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by his vibrant personality and kind heart. Steve graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering. He valued the importance of knowledge and lifelong learning. Steve proudly served in the United States Navy. His military associations were an integral part of his life, and he carried the values of honor, courage, and commitment with him always.

In addition to his many accomplishments, Steve had a passion for aviation. If he could hear a plane nearby, he would quickly run out of a room to see what type it was. He built a replica of the Wright Brothers 1903 Wright Flyer which is currently exhibited at the Florida Air Museum in Lakeland, FL.
