Stewart Arnold Schlachter, 69, of Inglis died on January 28, 2015 at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala after a sudden illness. He was born on August 1, 1945 in East Orange, NJ to W. Stewart Schlachter and Mildred Schlachter Dear.
In 1974 he was married to the former Mary Miller of Dunnellon. They have two children.
Stewart worked for 42 years in various positions for the AT&T and Bell Telephone Systems in New Jersey and Florida. He worked at BellSouth in Dunnellon for 34 years, retiring in 2006. Stewart was an active member of the Dunnellon Church of Christ where he served as Treasurer and on numerous committees. Over the years Stewart was active in VFW, Boy Scouts of America, volunteering at Yankeetown School, substitute teaching, School Advisory Committee member, Box Tops for Education coordinator, Junior Achievement, and many other organizations. In 2014 Stewart was recognized as Junior Achievement volunteer of the year for Levy County.
Apart from his charities and civic engagements, Stewart has an extended family in West Virginia. While visiting WV during summertime, he loved to camp in the many state parks; roam and explore the country roads looking at old cemeteries, and attend family reunions. He also loved working extensively on family genealogy.
He leaves his beloved wife Mary; his daughter Jessica of Providence, RI; and son David of Jacksonville. He also leaves a brother Gregory and his wife Karen of Atco, NJ; his stepfather John of Spring Hill; his brother-in-law David and his wife Diana of Tampa; and 2 nieces, 1 grandniece, and 1 grandnephew.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 31st at the Dunnellon Church of Christ at 5pm. Viewing/Visitation will be held on Friday January 30th at Roberts Funeral Home in Dunnellon, FL from 5pm to 8pm. Mr. Schlachter will be interred at a later date at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
