Suzanne Thomas of Ocala, Florida passed away peacefully on June 26, 2023 with family by her side.
Suzanne was born in Decatur, GA on December 25, 1941 to the late Roberta Kilpatrick Stubblebine and Charles A. Stubblebine, Sr. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles A. Stubblebine, Jr. (Diane).
She married Alexander Turner Thomas III, on April 12, 1969 in Decatur, GA. The couple lived in New York and Miami before moving to her husband’s hometown of Ocala in 1974 with their two sons.
Suzanne quickly settled in and became very active in the Children’s Service League, and was instrumental in its conversion to The Junior League of Ocala. She was an active member of The Junior League for years, and remained a Junior League Sustainer until her death.
Suzanne also shared her enthusiasm for community service with Fine Arts for Ocala (FAFO) where, as a founding board member, she worked tirelessly to support the arts in Ocala for years. Suzanne served several terms as president during her tenure.
Her true passion was for the preservation of the historic area of Ocala. She worked tirelessly in this effort. As a founding board member of The Historic Ocala Preservation Society (HOPS), she worked with her friends, neighbors and community leaders to preserve the legacy of Ocala. She served five terms as the HOPS president.
After her children left for college, Suzanne worked in real estate and excelled at navigating her clients through the real estate market. She even mentored new members of the real estate community. Suzanne was like a welcome wagon to newcomers to Ocala, was an expert in historic home sales, and helped many new families put down roots here over the past 35 years.
She will be sorely missed by her many friends and family. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, AT Thomas III, her sons, Alec (Julie) Thomas of Ocala, Rob (Tanya) Thomas of Fleming Island, and the lights of her life: grandchildren Ashton, Chase, Ben, Sydney and Carter.
A memorial service for Suzanne will be held at 2 PM Thursday, July 6, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, 1126 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, with Pastor Tim Machtel officiating. Condolences for the family can be left at www.robertsofdunnellon.com
