Thomas J. Noto Jr. M.D. of Dunnellon, FL passed away on June 9, 2015. He was 86 years old. Dr. Noto was born in Scranton, PA to the late Thomas J. Noto, who served as a Lt. Col. in the U.S Army, and Marie J. Flanagan. Immediately after graduating high school from the La Salle Institute in Troy, NY, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea as a Sergeant in the 31st Infantry Regiment. Following his military service, he received his B.S. from the University of Miami and his M.D. from the University of Florida in 1960 as a member of its first medical school class. In his 30+ year career, Tom was a pioneer in the field of cardiac angiography. He established one of Miami’s first cardiac catheterization labs in 1967 at Mercy Hospital and later opened the Ft. Lauderdale branch of the Cleveland Clinic Florida. He completed his medical career at Norwegian Cruise Lines as its Fleet Physician. He had many professional accomplishments including performing the first angioplasty (balloon catheterization) in the US. Tom was an enthusiastic and accomplished pilot and was instrument and multi-engine rated. He was most happy flying various tailwheel aircraft, especially a much-loved Cessna 180. He was a passionate trap, skeet and sporting clays shooter and an active member of the Carolina chapter of the Vintagers Order of Edwardian Gunners. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Rachel Mount Noto; his sister Mary Jane Romano; his children Tom, Ellen and Tim; his daughter-in-law Karrie; and grandchildren Andrew, Daniel, Claudia and Kally. His greatest love was his family who treasured him dearly.
