Treva Carol Fortson Brown, 76, of Dunellon, Florida, slipped peacefully away to be with the Lord on June 3, 2017, surrounded by her children in her home.

Treva was born in Miami in 1941, but spent most of her life in Tampa, Florida, before moving  to Dunnellon in 1992 to the home her husband Ed built for them.  She enjoyed her role as mother and homemaker and her simple life in the country.  She had a great love for animals.  Treva knew her way around a kitchen and could fry a mean chicken, always cooking enough for a crowd because her door and heart were always open.  She also always had a listening ear, words of wisdom, and a cup of coffee ready for anyone.  She loved old Gospel tunes and could burst in to song at any moment.  But her greatest passion was her children and grandchildren, loving them greatly and defending them ferociously.

"Death is not the dimming of the light, but the extinguishing of a lamp because the dawn has arrived."  Treva is lighting up the dawn on some other shore and went forth knowing she was loved.

Treva is survived by loving children, Donna Carpenter (Winston), Jennifer Caskey (Jack), Arlen "Hank" Haynes (Lisa), Michael "Tom" Haynes, Patricia Birchfield (George), and William Brown.  Grandchildren Caysie Carpenter Romano, Michael Caskey, Jared Haynes, Hollie Haynes, Sarah Birchfield, Laura Birchfield, Krystal Brown; five great-grandchildren;  much-beloved sister, Sharon "Sandy" Gorman and niece Christina Gorman;  many devoted friends.

She is preceeded in death by her husband of 45 years, Edward T. Brown, step-son, Edward Brown, Jr., and grandsons Jordan Carpenter and Christopher Caskey.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at 12:00 PM at Roberts Funeral Home in Dunnellon. Treva's family will be receiving relatives and friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Dunnellon Memorial Gardens. Folks are then invited to join the family at Treva's home for food and fellowship.
