William “Bill” H. Ross, 69, departed this life on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at home in Dunnellon, FL after a valiant battle against cancer. He was born on January 17, 1955 in Kennewick, WA and was the son to the late William and Wanda (Henderson) Ross. Bill grew up in Lamar, AR and attended Arkansas Tech University and the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. Bill enjoyed a distinguished 30-year career in television, starting as a cameraman at KARK-TV in Little Rock. Through hard work and dedication, he rose to the position of Director of Live News, ultimately retiring from NBC-WESH News in Orlando, FL. Bill’s passion for live news and commitment to journalism excellence made him a respected figure in the industry. In 1982, Bill married Cindy in Russellville, Arkansas and lived in Little Rock until relocating to Orlando, FL. While living in Orlando, Bill and Cindy raised their son William Christopher Ross, who currently resides in Quito, Ecuador. After retirement, Bill and Cindy returned to Arkansas for a period before settling in Dunnellon, FL, in 2018. Bill enjoyed live music—especially Steve Earle—science fiction and fantasy novels and movies, particularly The Lord of the Rings. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family and friends. He had a special love for dachshunds and will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony “Bud” Ross, and his sister, Sydney Case. Bill is survived by his wife, Cindy Ross, of Dunnellon; his son, William Christopher Ross; and his sister, Teresia Wadley, and her husband Darryl, of Lamar, AR. He is also survived by one nephew, Jason Wadley of Knoxville, AR, and two nieces, Sally Amburgey of Round Rock, TX, and Meghan McKinney of Springfield, MO.
