Willis Lyle Whitten, 91, died on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at the Hawthorne Center for Rehabilitation in Ocala, FL. He was born into this life on August 31, 1933 in Augusta, Maine, and was the son to the late Willis and Rena (Woodward) Whitten. Shortly after graduating from High School, Willis enlisted and served our country with the United States Air Force. Following the Air Force, he attended Bentley College in Massachusetts and became a Certified Public Accountant, and later started working for Travelers Insurance Company out of Hartford, CT., while living in Middletown, CT. He later met his wife Eileen, who is from Enfield, CT. They got married and made their home in Middletown. When Willis retired from Travelers Insurance Company, he and his wife moved to Florida. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed volunteering for the State of Florida’s SHINE program which offers free, confidential health insurance counseling and assistance to Florida residents.
Willis is preceded in death by his one brother and four sisters.
He leaves behind his wife of 33yrs., Eileen Whitten and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a committal service held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 11:30AM at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
