Alfred Gordon Wilson, born February 14, 1950, in Lakeview, Michigan passed away on November 12th, 2023 at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. His loving wife Lynn, was at his side. Al earned his Bachelors degree from Michigan State University and a Masters degree from Vanderbilt University. Before eventually retiring to Florida, he lived in the Middle Tennessee area where he enjoyed a successful career working as a mechanical engineer in the custom metal fabrication industry.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn (Richards) Wilson, step-sons Jason (Amanda) LaForte of Nashville, TN, John (Julie) LaForte of Santa Rosa, FL and Jim (Dawn) LaForte of Murfreesboro, TN, step-grandchildren Taylor, Halle, Joanna, Maggie, and Max. He is also survived by sisters Ruth (Harry) King of Mason, MI and Eloise Buzbee of Brooksville, FL, along with several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Alfred Gordon and Helen (May) Wilson.
Al served in the National Guard and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a chocolate and wine connoisseur who enjoyed cheering on his Spartans, restoring and showing antique tractors, riding bicycles and motorcycles, and had a genuine love for animals. However, his true passion was being a drag race car driver and owner. Al liked to analyze every performance in detail and was constantly experimenting in order to gain a competitive advantage. He would often claim to be just a minor adjustment away from securing a trip to victory lane.
Al will always be remembered for his vibrant spirit, big heart and kind soul.
A Memorial Service for Al will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 20, 2023, at Roberts Funeral Home, 19939 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Dunnellon. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until service time.
