Bernice Anna Karson, 98, of Ocala, FL passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023 at Marion Oaks Assisted Living. Bernice was born on February 2, 1925 in Detroit, MI to Vincent and Victoria Szydlowski . She was a graduate of Pershing High School in Detroit. She served in the United States Coast Guard Women's Reserve during WWII at the Coast Guard Training Station Manhattan Beach, NY. Bernice lived in the Detroit area for many years where she was an active member of the All Saints Polish National Catholic Church, worked, married and raised her family, before moving to Ocala, FL with her husband Julius in 1984. She was a resident of Oak Run in Ocala for 35 years where she was active in quilting, yoga and gardening. She attended St. Paul Parish National Catholic Church in Belleview, FL.
Bernice is survived by her three children Judy (Andy) Zaczek, John (Kathy) Karson, David (Mary Frances) Karson. Bernice was a loving and caring wife and mother, a loving grandmother to Amanda Filzen, Emily Nielsen, Douglas and Maria Karson, and a loving great grandmother to Addison Filzen.
She was preceded in death by her husband Julius.
Full Military Honors will be presented on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 9:00 AM at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave., Bushnell, FL 33513 followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Parish National Catholic Church, 5245 SE 112th St., Belleview, FL 34420.
