Charles Robert Delbaugh, 77, of Dunnellon, FL, passed away on June 12, 2023. Throughout the years, some of his friends may have known him as Carle or Chas. Charles is survived by his spouse Joan Delbaugh; his sons Dean, Seth, Christopher and Jason; his daughters-in-law Sarah, Stacy, Denise and Jennifer; and his grandchildren Abigail, Emily, Brocky, Camron, and Taylor.
Charles was born on July 27, 1945, to Charles Albert Delbaugh and Ruth Edna Connell of Cornwall, NY. Charles attended grammar school in Highland Falls, NY, where he often recalled his love for playing football, basketball and running track for the Red Raiders. Charles also had a love for the United States Military Academy at West Point. It was where his father retired from and where he would spend much of his time as a child.
Charles is a Vietnam veteran who proudly served in the United States Army. His Military Occupation Specialty was Military Police. Charles was assigned to the 4th Military Police Company, 4th Infantry Division. While deployed to Camp Enari in Pleiku, Vietnam, Charles served as a Provost Marshal Investigator and as a Generals Guard.
Shortly after returning from Vietnam, Charles started his career at IBM in Fishkill, NY. IBM played a big role in Charles’ life; it’s the time when he started a family and where he met some of his closest friends. During his career at IBM, he served through many tech and management roles. These roles ultimately led him to IBM in Boca Raton, FL, where he retired.
Anybody that knew Charles knew that he loved the game of golf. He spent his entire life trying to hit his driver to no avail. Charles favorite yearly event was the Bush Open—a golf tournament put on amongst friends and family for over 30 years. Charles passed the love of the game to his children, Dean and Seth. Charles was also an avid Florida State University (FSU) football fan. FSU is what Charles and his son Christopher bonded over and enjoyed every Saturday in the fall.
