Obituary

Cynthia Ann (Muhler) Marquardt

Cynthia [Cyndi] Ann (Muhler) Marquardt, 75, of Dunnellon, FL, passed away on October, 15th, 2021 after a courageous battle with sepsis.

Cyndi was born on October 8, 1946 as the youngest of five children to Hans Muhler and Mary (Litwin) Muhler and grew up in Upper Montclair, NJ. She developed a passion for horses at a young age. She and her sister Linda won a “name a pony” TV contest in 1955 with the name “Cinderella” bringing home the prize pony in a station wagon.

Cyndi moved to NH when she was 23 years old, fell in love with NH and spent the majority of her life in the Seacoast NH area. She married James [Jim] E. Marquardt in March of 1974, they were married for 47 years. Cyndi & Jim had two children, Amy in 1976 and Benjamin in 1978.

Cyndi’s passion for horses manifested into the farm and eventually horse boarding business that she & Jim ran for 40 years in Epping, NH, named Spinnaker Hill Farm, after the couple’s other interest, which was sailing. There she raised & bred horses, as well as other animals, taught riding lessons to countless students, hosted horse shows, and held seminars on holistic animal therapies and techniques long before these were mainstream treatments. Cyndi raised Irish Setter dogs, was a very talented artist in many different mediums, and blessed so many with her unique artistic creations.

Cyndi’s true gift to this world was her impact on the lives of those of us who knew her. Cyndi had an unrivaled compassion and giving nature, often becoming a surrogate mom to children and adults. Her open and inviting home was always a safe space, every holiday celebrated with gusto, and everyone was always welcome and encouraged to come by. Cyndi was a woman who had an innate ability to see inside a person and intuitively understand how best to help them. She had a unique ability to see into people’s souls and to see the potential we had within, but perhaps we did not acknowledge. Coupled with this was Cyndi’s remarkable ability to support and encourage in personalized ways that worked to push us towards our destiny. Whether it be with compassion and gentle encouragement to a direct no holds barred statement, if you needed to hear one, Cyndi motivated us in so many ways to grow, to accomplish goals we may not have without her encouragement, to keep fighting and keep moving forward through tough times. She led many of us through dark times, offering an empathetic shoulder to cry on and she laughed with us through the happy times with her easy chuckle and infectious smile. Once you met her, Cyndi was someone you wanted to continue to have in your life. She carried incredible strength in her heart and soul and was profoundly radiant, intuitive, loving, and inspirational. Said perfectly “when she smiled, you could feel her love right down to your soul.”

Cyndi is survived by her husband Jim Marquardt, her daughter Amy (Marquardt) Estey, her son in law Mark Estey, her brother Hans Muhler, her sister in law Marie Muhler, her sisters Rita (Muhler) McCord and Linda (Muhler) Arnold, her brother in law Richard Arnold, as well as a significantly large and very close family of nieces, nephews and cousins, and a massive circle of friends.

Cyndi was predeceased by her son Benjamin J. Marquardt, who passed away in 1990 at age 11, her sister Marielese (Muhler) Mihok, her mother Mary & father Hans, as well as many other family members & close friends, so we are comforted that she has plenty of company in heaven.
