Hallie B Castell, 82, of Crystal River peacefully passed away December 18, 2021, at home surrounded by family.
Hallie was born December 2, 1939, in Cedar Key to the late Jannie Mae (Robinson) and Charles Castell, Sr. He graduated from Cedar Key School in 1957 as the only male in a class of 9. He attended Central Florida Junior College and served in the US Army. He was an electrician by trade and retired in February 2000 from Florida Power Corporation. He was a member of Crystal River Methodist Church and a member and past Master of Springs Masonic Lodge #378. He was also a member of the Crystal River High School Football Chain Crew for more than 15 years.
He was an avid Florida Gators fan – win or lose - and enjoyed Saturdays at The Swamp and any day at the recently retired McKethan Stadium. He loved any opportunity he had to be in Cedar Key, especially the two weeks every summer with those he loved most. He was very happy to see the restoration and conservation efforts his favorite university was making to the shorelines he walked growing up.
Hallie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Tee (Rowland) Castell, his daughter Tesa (Dennis) McClure, of Crystal River, FL, his grandson Tanner (Katie) McClure of Lawrenceville, GA, his brothers, C.W. “Bubba” Castell of Jonesville, FL, John Castell of Keystone Heights, FL, and a wonderful extended family of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Crystal River United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 5 at 4:00. A visitation before the service will begin at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UF IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station in Cedar Key (ncbs.ifas.ufl.edu/donate-ncbs) or to Crystal River United Methodist Church.
