James E. Duan, 93, died on September 3, 2023 at Hospice House in Ocala, FL. He was born on July 30, 1930 in Rockford, Illinois and was the son to the late Frank and Grace (Abney) Duan. The family moved to Miami, FL when he was a teen. He was one of six children. He served our country with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Senior Aerial Photographer and was Honorably discharged in 1953. After returning home to Miami, he began his lifetime trade as a carpenter. He and his wife, Joan lived and raised their children in Miramar while he commuted to Miami Beach for his job. In 1978, he moved his family to Dunnellon, FL and continued his occupation as a carpenter with various contractors and lastly, Harry Moody Outdoor Advertising, Inc.
His spirit was as strong as he was physically. He survived two strokes, but never gave up. Still able to swing a hammer, if he were inclined, till God called him home to be with his wife Joan (Kuck) Duan who predeceased him in 2004. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Jayne (Duan) Viverito; his son John Lawrence Duan; brother, Ken Duan; and sister, Lois (Duan)Tupper.
