Janice Rae Gaulding Gassaway
January 18, 1931 – February 9, 2021
On Tuesday, February 9th, 2021, Janice G. Gaulding Gassaway, at the age of 90 years old, peacefully passed away.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia to her father, Glynn Pullen Gaulding and her mother, Nettie Rae Moore Gaulding, she was their first born of three children, including their two sons Glynn R. Gaulding and William M. Gaulding.
Janice graduated with honors and a BA degree in Science-English-Education from Berry College in Rome, GA. She enjoyed working in biochemistry at the Atlanta Health Department, the Miami Health Department and as a teaching assistant at the school of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University. She later went back to school to renew her teaching certificate so she could substitute teach in Miami, FL.
Janice was a gifted, classically trained soloist and her love for music later lead her to be the youth choir director at St Thomas Lutheran Church in Miami, Florida. She enjoyed oil painting, sewing, decorating and she handcrafted many of the back drops and props used in their musical performances.
She was an avid gardener who believed in creating beautiful surroundings that nurtured the native wildlife and she was a member and supporter of the Florida Native Plant Society.
She dedicated her time to volunteer at the voting polls and felt it was her civic duty to vote and to help to ensure that everyone could do so.
Formerly married to James M. Gassaway, she was a wonderful and loving mother to their two children James S. Gassaway and Kathryn R. Gassaway and is survived by the three of them and her brother Glynn R. Gaulding.
