Jeffrey Donald Lewis, 71, of Dunnellon, FL, passed away at his home on July 17 under the care of Hospice of Marion County. Jeffrey was born in Pittsburg, PA on June 25, 1947 and moved with his mother, the late Dorothy Ellstrom, and his brothers, John and Jim, to Miami FL in 1948. He served briefly in the US Army and was employed as an air traffic controller before moving to Marion County in 1979. Unlike his brothers, Jeff had the skills and the moxie to start, and successfully manage, two businesses. The first was Tele-Beepers (remember those?). Sensing the demise of that technology, he sold the business and founded A1 Lightning Protection in 1989. He ran that business for 27 years before retiring just two years ago. For fun, Jeff enjoyed golf (he wasn't real good at it, but he sure enjoyed himself), fishing with his good friend Gary, trips to Vegas with his wife Shirley (where he once won $10,000 at a slot machine competition) and playing Fantasy Football with his good friend Mike.
Jeffery is survived by his wife of 10 years, Shirley Lavern Lewis, his two sons Justin Lewis and Michael Lewis, and his two brothers. Also near and dear to Jeff was Justin's daughter Alissa, who was by his side for several days during his final time.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on July 28 at Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon with Pastor Jeffrey Welch officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Marion County.
