John S. Baranek entered peaceful rest on May 24, 2023.Born in Derby, he was born on September 8, 1945. He was the beloved son of the late Alexander and Anna (Wanciak) Baranek.
He lived most of his life in Seymour and Oxford CT before moving to Florida 16 years ago when he retired. He went to Bullard-Havens High school, graduating in 1963. He started his career as an auto mechanic in Fletcher’s garage in New Haven, CT. He then changed careers and worked at the Naugatuck Treatment plant in Naugatuck CT.
He enjoyed cruising with Royal Caribbean and attained Diamond Plus status. John played in the band 313 East with his friends for several years playing both the guitar and drums. He loved to play poker and woodworking, spending hours in his “shed”. John’s favorite TV show was Oak Island. He watched it faithfully each week. His weekends were spent watching NASCAR and Indy Car racing. Every year he, his niece, and her husband would have a friendly wager on who would win each week. John was crowned the “King Champion” most years by having the most correct guesses.
His survivors include his daughter, Denise Smith (David) and 2 grandchildren. 2 sisters, Anna Tricarico (Ray Haversat) and Linda McGinley as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Alexander Baranek, his brother-in-law Joseph Tricarico and his nephew Daniel Tricarico.
Memorial services will be held at 10 AM on June 10, 2023, at Roberts Funeral Home, 19939 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Dunnellon, FL.
