Jack Cross, 90, of Dunnellon, FL, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021. He was born October 1,1931 in Philadelphia, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. Sr. and Lillian Cross, his three children, Timothy, Donald and Jacqueline, sister Patricia Becker, and brother David Cross.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Barbara West, brother Michael Cross (Julie), daughter-In-law Cheri Cross and grandchildren, Erin Cross-Luettger (Matthew), Erika Gossett (Mark) and Brendan Cross (Haley), as well as many nieces and nephews.
After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He retired in 1973 as a Senior Master Sergeant. During his 23-year military career he traveled the world, publishing newspapers and managing radio stations, earning numerous citations, medals and other awards. His favorite posts were Thailand where he earned his Black Belt at age 41 and Alaska where he was named 1962 Sportscaster of the Year while working at an Anchorage TV station. He was an avid reader, and his library of First Editions would make anyone envious. His books brought him great joy and created many precious friendships. He will be remembered fondly by all he touched on this earth.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate this wonderful man on Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 2-4 PM at Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon, 19939 E. Pennsylvania Ave. Casual dress is acceptable, masks encouraged but not required.
