If heaven could get any more optimistic, the man who could make it so just entered through the pearly gates. Melvin Kunz passed on February 21, 2021 at 11:55 p.m., where he was greeted by his two eldest sons in heaven – James and John Paul. At his passing, he was surrounded by the people he loved, including his wife of 67 years, Marian Shinneman Kunz, and his three remaining children, Janna Young, Jonathan, and Joel. Melvin has nine grandkids and ten great-grandkids. Also, this legacy continues through his three younger brothers – Dwayne, Gordon, and Dean. Melvin was born to Roy Kunz and Mildred Williamson Kunz on February 10, 1932. Then raised in the heartland of America, Central Illinois. He attended and graduated Wheaton College then Trinity Seminary. He received his ordination under the guidance of Independent Fundamental Churches of America.
Mel lived his life to serve God. This service brought him to Illinois, Iowa, Alabama, and Florida. Melvin carried many titles in his calling to God - including teacher, pastor, Dean of Students, and counselor. In his later years, after retiring to Ocala, he became a realtor, but his real occupation was to serve people and bring as many people as he could to heaven with him. This meant that he was a constant witness of God’s glory in his life. Mel will be remembered as a man with a giving and forgiving heart with an attitude of servitude to God and man. Mel never met a person he did not like and had a Godly ability to see the very best in everyone.
Celebration of life services will be held at First Baptist Church of Ocala (2801 SE Maricamp Rd, Ocala, FL 34471) at 2:00 on Saturday February 27. Senior Pastor Dr. Darren Gaddis will direct song, testimony, and remembrance services, which will be a witness of a life lived as a good and faithful servant of God.
