Sharon Hickman-Besch Obituary

Sharon was born in Bucyrus, Ohio to Kathryn Fisher, a teacher, and Doc Fisher, a dentist. Baptized, confirmed, and married in 1960 to Ron Hickman at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Bucyrus, Ohio. She graduated from Bucyrus High School and Capital University in Columbus, Ohio with honors. She moved to Saginaw, Michigan with Ron for his internship for Lutheran Ministry. Ron was called to serve at Salem Lutheran Church, Wooster, Ohio where they lived for five years. Ron was then called to Christ the King Lutheran Church in Sunrise, Florida for twenty years. Ron died of melanoma cancer and was called to heaven in 1988. Sharon continued to serve at Christ the King Lutheran and then St. John’s Lutheran in Hollywood, Florida while teaching school.

Sharon moved to Ocala to serve at St. Matthew’s Lutheran church as a minister of music and youth in 1996. She received her Master’s Degree and Associate in Ministry (Music) rostered status from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio in 2000. In 2000 she accepted a call to be the Minister of Music for Joy Lutheran Church, Ocala, Florida where she served until she retired in 2018 where she played the organ and piano, directed the choir and hand bell choir and as a worship planner. She also served at Hope Lutheran Church in the villages as a small group and Bible Study leader from 2000 to 2003.

In 2002, Sherry married Lewis Besch, and celebrated 18 years of marriage on May 10, 2020. Lew enjoyed singing while Sherry played the piano, and they enjoyed square dancing together. Lew preceded her into heaven by one month.

She is survived by her three married sons David (DeLand, FL), John (Atlanta, GA), and Stephen (Ocala, FL); and their wives Yvonne (David), Lori (John), and Stephanie (Stephen); nine grandchildren Orry and his wife Noeliz, Joshua and his wife Dorothy, and Caelan (David and Yvonne), Holly and her husband Jeremy, Ryan and his wife Lauren, Brandon, and Katherine (John and Lori), and Austin and Nathan (Stephen and Stephanie); and two great-grandchildren, Valerie (Holly and Jeremy) and Kieran (Joshua and Dorothy).

Sharon will be laid to rest on Saturday, December 4, 2020, in Columbus, Ohio.  Memorial services for Sharon and her late husband Lewis Besch will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Joy Lutheran Church, 7045 S.W. 83 Place, Ocala, FL.
