William Porter, 87, retired truck driver, died on October 29, 2021 in Crystal River, FL. He was born into this life on November 18, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio and was the son to the late James and Hilda (Mayo) Porter. Bill served in the US Air Force and was stationed in Savannah, Georgia where he met his late wife, Doris Porter while she was attending Savannah State College. They ended up getting married and moved back to Ohio where they raised their two daughters. He worked as a Truck Driver for several different trucking companies including, Cooper-Jarret and retired from Consolidated Freight Co. Bill moved to Florida in 2005 from Ohio after being a snowbird for several years. He enjoyed camping, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Bill was a member of the Columbus Camper Club, the Broward county Camper Club, Knights of Columbus council 8510 and a parishioner with St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dunnellon. He was a wonderful family man who loved his children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris and his three brothers and one sister.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Anita Pitts and Sharon Porter; his grandchildren, Johnita Pitts, Daniel Harper, Jr. and Shayne Pitts and seven great grandchildren.
A prayer service will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dunnellon. There will be a public visitation on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 9-10:30AM. Burial will follow prayer service at 2:00 PM at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
