John J. Pollock, 84 passed away to eternal rest on Friday, September 23, 2022.
John was born June 12, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY, and attended PS207 and graduated from St Thomas Aquinas Flatlands, Brooklyn. After graduating from a Food Trades Vocational High School in Manhattan, he enlisted in the US Army (1957) 123rd Signal Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1963. In 1977, he re-enlisted in the U.S Army Reserves and served with the 854th Engineering Battalion and the 812th Military Police. In 1985, he joined the 105th Air National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant.
John spent his entire life in the food services, working multiple jobs, including Pius XII, Sugar Loaf, NY and started the food trade program at Orange/Ulster BOCES in Goshen, NY, retiring after 28 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Mary & William; his daughter Christine Pollock; his two brothers, William and James and one sister Jacqueline.
He is survived by his beloved wife Ellen; his daughters, Suzanne (Michael) Hart, Kathy (Peter)Baumann , Colleen (Frank) Smith, and Noreen (Allen) Zoghby; his seven grandchildren, Brian Timmins, Cailin (Terry) LeBarron, Kimberly (Austin) Gale, Franklin Smith, Allison, Michael and Kyle Zoghby; his one great grandson, Tate James LaBarron; his four stepchildren, Thomas Myers, Wendy Herb, Michael (Terry) Myers, and Jill Kilcoin; his nine step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren; John is also survived by his sisters, Mary Oster and Veronica Jordan as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was very community minded and belonged to many organizations including the Howells Fire Department, Therapeutic Riding Associates, Warwick, NY, American Legion Post #58, Dunnellon, FL, Kiawanis and served as Key Club Chairman for many years at the Dunnellon High School.
A memorial service will be held at the American Legion Post # 58 on Saturday, October 22nd at 1:00pm.
